The European parliament said that the EU should take China to the international court of justice if Beijing imposes its new law on hong kong. Lawmakers called the new law an ‘assault’ on Hong Kong’s autonomy.
The European Parliament on Friday condemned Beijing’s so-called national security law for Hong Kong.
Lawmakers passed a resolution protesting the law, saying it would undermine the city’s freedoms.

“I defend the one country two system principle. So I stand with the people and support their freedom of expression. The arrests of four democratic leaders, the violent crackdown of protestors and the new security law, are an assault on the autonomy of #HongKong.”
Lawmakers also called for an independent investigation into the use of violence by the Hong Kong police towards pro-democracy protestors.
The resolution is not-binding but can steer policy.
It comes ahead of an #EU-China summit next week.
