Couple facing multiple charges

LONDON, ON (December 12, 2018) – London Police have a couple in custody after a vehicle fled from officers and struck multiple cruisers overnight.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at approximately 1:00 a.m., London police were called to a parking lot on Cherryhill Boulevard in relation to a man allegedly breaking into vehicles. Upon police arrival, the suspect was observed driving away from the lot in a car. The officer stopped the vehicle and approached the driver. While attempting to speak to the driver, the vehicle fled. Checks revealed the car had incorrect plates on it, and a description of the car was provided to other officers in the area.

Another officer observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Wharncliffe Road North and Western Road, and an attempt was made to stop the vehicle. The suspect driver did not stop. On Trott Drive, the vehicle reversed into a police cruiser and continued to flee from police.

The vehicle was followed to the area of Riverside Drive and Wonderland Road where officers attempted to prevent its escape. The vehicle struck multiple police cruisers at this location in its attempt to flee. Officers were eventually able to stop the car at Springbank Drive by boxing it in. The two occupants were arrested.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the plates on the vehicle, along with a second set inside, were stolen. The estimated damages to eight police cruisers as a result of this incident, are approximately $16,300.

As a result of the investigation, a *24-year-old London man has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

•Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
•Flight while pursued by peace officer;
•Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x 2;
•Resist arrest; and
•Fail to comply with recognizance.

A 20-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

Both accused are expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.
