US officially changes map to show Golan Heights as Israeli territory

The U.S. government has officially updated their maps to show the Golan Heights as part of Israel and no longer occupied.

Previously, the U.S. recognized the Golan Heights as occupied by Israel since June of 1967; however, due to Donald Trump’s announcement last week, Washington has made the decision to update their maps.

Despite the U.S. decision, their allies from the Arab League and European Union have both rejected this move, with the letter saying they will never recognize Israel’s sovereignty over this region.

In addition to the Arab League and European Union, China and Russia have also condemned Trump’s decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights in separate statements.

Israel captured the Golan Heights during the Six-Day War of 1967.
