Aurora seen in the Czech Republic and surrounding areas ~Tonight~

People in the Czech Republic observed the aurora borealis

The aurora borealis was visible in some parts of the Czech Republic on Sunday. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) announced the remarkable phenomenon on the X network on Sunday. However, there was a lot of cloud cover in most of the area, which should have decreased according to meteorologists in the south of the Czech Republic. According to meteorologists, in addition to low cloud cover, a good view of the northern horizon and a dark sky were necessary for observation.

The northern lights are among the most beautiful natural phenomena in the sky. While they are quite common in polar regions, their occurrence is rare in lower latitudes.

“Before lunch today, material from one of the solar eruptions arrived at Earth. Currently, the earth’s geomagnetic field is disturbed and there is hope of seeing the aurora borealis after dark. It is not excluded that other, later eruptions will also reach the Earth. In that case, the chance of seeing the aurora borealis would increase even more significantly,” said the ČHMÚ.

According to meteorologists, the weather was not very favorable for observation, as there was a lot of cloud cover in most areas. Greater chances of reduced cloud cover are in southern Bohemia, the Highlands and southern Moravia. “If you want to try to see the aurora borealis, you can do so in the evening,” they said.

Several users have already shared their catches on the X social network. The clearly visible aurora borealis was photographed by people near Říčany, in Ostrava or in Vysočín.
