The deputies of the French National Assembly, who represent the lower chamber of parliament, gathered on the evening of March 12th to cast their votes in favor of endorsing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s plan on how to assist Ukraine and the mutual security pact.
A total of 372 members of the French Parliament’s lower house have expressed their approval for the security cooperation deal between France and Ukraine, with 99 voting against it. This vote is not legally binding. Prior to the vote, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal addressed the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to show their support for the agreement and for Kyiv. He emphasized that voting against it would only strengthen Vladimir Putin’s position and that abstaining from voting would be evading their historical responsibilities.
During the discussion, most MPs voiced their backing for Ukraine, although they criticized President Emmanuel Macron’s comments regarding the potential deployment of Western troops in Ukraine.
