As Dr. Ben Carson begins his potential campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, the national field director for his official exploratory committee is coming under fire for a now-deleted Twitter account that was full of invective against President Barack Obama and other political figures, including some prominent conservatives.
A new report from BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynskiunearths the numerous tweets from the account@artfuldodger59, operated by Jim Dornan, who worked on the governmental affairs staff at the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries before joining Team Carson.
Writing under that pseudonym, Dornan said he was “looking forward to McConnell shoving his fist up Obama’s ass” and declared “I’m beginning to think this President is a complete sociopath.” On another occasion, he tweeted directly at the president, “Bend over, bitch. Castro’s driving.”
But Dornan’s Twitter trolling was not limited to Obama or even Democrats. While he called MSNBC’sChris Matthews a “freaking moron” and DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz a “pathetic excuse for a human being” he also called both Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sarah Palin “idiots.”
“I do see the issue associated with his Twitter,” a Carson campaign spokesperson told Kaczynski, downplaying his role in the campaign and saying he was working as a volunteer (while getting reimbursed for travel expenses by Carson’s USA First PAC).
