When delegates start arriving over the next few days for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, they will be welcomed to the city with a billboard that may well haunt them for years to come. Take a look at what awaits them:
Yep, that’s none other than presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump about to give a kiss to second-place finisher Ted Cruz. Hey, fellas: Is there something you’ve been meaning to tell us all?
Planting Peace, the non-profit organization behind The Equality House, a rainbow-colored house that sits across the street from Westboro Baptist Church, is responsible for the billboard, and Aaron Jackson, President of Planting Peace, says the message to Republicans is simple and direct:
“What Donald, Ted and the Republican party either fail to realize, or realize and just don’t seem to care about, is that their words and actions toward our LGBT family―especially LGBT children―have meaning and impact. LGBT children hear these messages telling them they are nothing but second class citizens and are left feeling broken or ‘less than.’”
This year’s Republican platform has been described as the most conservative in history, according to CNN:
“Opposes same-sex marriage rights, supports efforts to restrict bathrooms to individuals’ birth gender, and protects businesses who refuse services to individuals based on religious objections to gay marriage.”
Jackson added that the message the GOP is sending is incredibly harmful to millions of Americans:
“When children are dying because of negative messages, then it’s time to change the message. Planting Peace calls for the immediate change in the Republican party platform with regard to our LGBT family and LGBT rights. Never again shall a negative, hateful message be uttered in the name of ‘religious freedom.’ We are calling for action that brings full, fundamental rights to the LGBT community, and a narrative that empowers LGBT people to live and love freely.”
Though it’s unlikely will change any minds in the GOP, it sure as hell makes you take a second look. Is it just me, or does it look like Donald’s about to slip Teddy Boy the tongue?
