Vancouver Police Explosives Disposal Unit gets rid of the two grenades found in a truck overnight.
A Surrey man is in custody after being found in possession of two live grenades during a traffic stop in East Vancouver Thursday night.
After responding to a 911 call about a suspicious person near Fraser Street and King Edward Avenue, police arrived and found a man in the driver’s seat of a car parked at the Esso gas station (725 E King Edward Ave).
According to a VPD press release, officers talked to the 33-year-old man and found he was possession of a small amount of marijuana.
He was also found to be a prohibited driver and police seized a set of brass knuckles from his pocket.
It was during a search of vehicle when police located throwing knives, a tactical vest, and two hand grenades.
X-rays of the grenades confirmed they were active, so they were detonated in a nearby school field by the Vancouver Police Explosive Disposal Unit.
