We’re updating our database servers to improve performance and security for the people who post stories on the site. We expect this to take all evening, ending about 8AM pacific time.
For contributors, you won’t be able to login or post until 8AM.
For regular readers, you won’t notice any difference, but there won’t be any new stories until tomorrow. RSS feeds will hopefully catch up tomorrow. There are still many great stories to catch up on, so feel free to stop by the site.
I also caught up with my seen.is account with this prompting.

We’ve been seeing too many account locks, blocking legitimate and good content (remember that Falun Gong persecution story they blocked?) and they now even want people to hand over their personal state issued ID’s. That’s the last straw. I won’t even get into the data storage policy, which is permanent — you can’t even delete your information if you want to.
We decided to do something about this and put this up in Iceland alongside Unseen, our sister company there. It’s very much like that social site you’re used to, but without the intrusion and privacy busting policies.
