Limits on outdoor gatherings and a ban on guests in homes will be extended through Christmas.
The Alberta government is set to launch a massive COVID-19 lockdown Tuesday afternoon, according to media reports.
Much like the first lockdown earlier this year, the new one being announced by Premier Jason Kenney will order the closure of all pubs and restaurants, with curb-side food takeout still allowed, reports Postmedia.
Much like the first lockdown earlier this year, the new one being announced by Premier Jason Kenney will order the closure of all pubs and restaurants, with curb-side food takeout still allowed, reports Postmedia.
The closure order comes despite health officials saying there is little community COVID-19 transmission through pubs and restaurants.
Casinos, fitness centres and personal service business such as hair and cosmetic salons, will also be shuttered, says Postmedia.
But malls will allowed to remain open but with further restrictions on capacity below the current 25 per cent of fire code allowance.
The closures will apparently take affect quickly with timing on lifting those measures dependent on success in limiting the spread of COVID-19.
The province will also ban all outdoor and indoor social gatherings, and impose mandatory work-from-home measures, CBC reported.
CBC also reports a province-wide mandatory mask order will also be issued.
Alberta has gone more than a week reporting new cases in the four-figures. The province has had 70,301 COVID-19 cases with 631 deaths.
This story will be updated as developments come in.
