Community Comes Together At Funeral For Abandonded Newborn Baby Found Dead In Box

According to Fox News, the baby, known as “Baby Jane Doe,” was found deceased on July 27 on the side of Interstate 15, wrapped in a striped and floral patterned t-shirt.

According to Fox News, the baby, known as “Baby Jane Doe,” was found deceased on July 27 on the side of Interstate 15, wrapped in a striped and floral patterned t-shirt.

“Upon arrival, Corona Police officers were directed to the location of the infant and confirmed the infant was deceased,” the Public Information Office of the city of Corona wrote in a statement. “The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner responded to the scene and took custody of the body to determine cause of death.”

The cause of death is still undetermined, and authorities have been unable to find family members of the baby girl through the use of DNA.

Corona Police Detective Jason Waldon told the Press Enterprise that police officers and firefighters worked with the cemetery, the Thomas Miller Mortuary, and a flower shop to organize the service held on December 6 at the Sunny Slope Cemetery.

Attendees of the funeral reportedly brought flowers and stuffed animals. One attendee, Lorena Palacios, even brought a pair of miniature Christmas trees and placed them by the casket, one of which was bought by her and one by a grocery store employee who wanted to contribute.

“… it’s December, it’s Christmas,” Palacios told Press Enterprise. “I have three kids. Every kid wants a tree.”

Corona resident Mary Aguilar, who brought a dozen pink roses and a stuffed pink bunny, said the story touched her heart.

“I just thought that coming out and showing support for this unknown baby was something we had to do,” Aguliar said.

Corona police chaplain and pastor of First Baptist Church of Corona, Jon Castillo, said a prayer at the service: “You’re not here because Baby Jane had the most beautiful voice because we were never given the opportunity to know what kind of a singing voice she had,” Castillo said. “You’re not here because she was able to write the most beautiful poem because she was never given the opportunity to write that poem.”

“Every person who walks the planet is born in God’s image, and she had inherent value and worth,” he added.
