Well this is going to suck for potentially 100’s of millions of daily users.
We lost StumbleUpon in 2018 and now Google bows out of the social media micro blogging space.
It is inconceivable that despite being on 100 of millions of Android devices Google Plus just could not compete and where edged out by the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and all the instant chat apps people use these days.
Anyways the reason this is now big news is because Google has announced a accelerated susnset of Google+ for us normal users!
Where will all the Google+ Spammers and Trolls go…?Probably where the G+ refugees flock to.
So if you have pics and the like and chat / message history on G+ check out the top link and instructions are there. We are going to be doing some trial back ups and posting a final goodbye on Google+ come March 31 2019 and backing up our history on it for the last time.
This could well be one of 2019’s most under reported epic corporate fails. It is certainly one of the biggest commercial flops in Google’s history and they are doing the right thing by shutting out the lights on it.
Remember Anglefire, GeoCities, MySpace, Tripod, AOL, and now Google+ ?
Lets see how Alphabet / Google down plays it and History remembers it if at all…
First announcement, back in October 2018, put the closure in August 2019:

Later, in December 2018 – after further review and more discoveries, the time table was moved up for the closure to April 2019:

… what it boils down to is that vulnerabilities in various aspects of Google+ were discovered and pointed out to Google. Those vulnerabilities caused a review of the Google+ product as a whole by Google. If one goes back the entire history of Google+ it did not live up to its potential at any point and has been steadily declining. Given that history and the discoveries that then made Google review the product, it came down to what most would objectively term a business decision: too many resources dedicated to something that is less than successful as-is — time to change it where it could be more tightly controlled (limited in scope) and properly maintained.
This, the free / public Google+ you are utilizing right now to post/read this will cease to exist in April 2019.
(There was no reported “breach”, merely vulnerabilities.)
