Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, other Democrats, list Knoxville addresses on FEC filing
A Political Action Committee called Brand New Congress says it helped around 70 progressive candidates in the 2018 election and is based in Knoxville.
“Apparently the address for the PAC is in Knoxville on Gay Street,” said Richard Pacelle, a Political Science professor at the University of Tennessee. “Its idea was to recruit new candidates that people hadn’t heard of before.”
What is hidden in FEC filings is that this location was also one of the headquarters for the political action committee that helped elect Democratic candidates from across the country, including New York, Texas and Illinois.
It is not clear whether Tennessee tax laws encouraged the PAC to set up shop here on Gay Street.

There were no “walls of separation” in the 3,500 square feet of office space in Knoxville, Tennessee that in 2017 and 2018 housed two political action committees (PACs), two private consulting firms, and at least 12 congressional campaigns committees, all controlled or run by Saikat Chakrabarti, who now serves as freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) chief of staff.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, however, did not file an amended statement of organization with the FEC changing the address of her campaign headquarters from 714 S. Gay Street, Knoxville, Tennessee to a location in New York until November 20, 2018, two weeks after she won the general election to represent New York’s 14th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, and more than six months after the Brand New Campaign LLC lease of the Knoxville office space ended.
Coordination between PACs and congressional campaigns is a violation of election law, and in the rare circumstances where PACs and congressional campaigns have been known to share office space, FEC regulations require firewalls–“walls of separation” to help ensure that illegal coordination does not occur.

Gill agreed that this indeed was a casting call that produced a win that wasn’t expected. He added that the Tennessee Report would post the YouTube video on the Tennessee Star website.
Leahy added to the conversation by agreeing with what Greg saw as correct and that the castings were held at seven fourteen south Gay Street in Knoxville where Saikat Chakrabarti and Corbin Trent from Morristown formed a group called Brand New Campaign, LLC which is controlled by Chakrabarti.
