The Israeli government discussed Sunday its readiness to accept a new wave of immigrants amid an increase of antisemitism in France, Ynet reported.
Following the outcome ofĀ a government meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the creation ofĀ a national program toĀ encourage the repatriation toĀ Israel ofĀ Jewish refugees fromĀ France. According toĀ local media, this blueprint program will also be introduced toĀ an inter-governmental commission onĀ integration.
Ynet reported that Israel’s Minister ofĀ Diaspora Affairs, Naftali Bennett, has estimated that some 200,000 Jews inĀ France could be repatriated toĀ Israel inĀ the nearĀ future.
Europe hes reportedly seen rising levels ofĀ xenophobic populism and hate speech amidĀ a prolonged migration crisis inĀ the region, according toĀ a European Commission againstĀ Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) report issued inĀ the summer ofĀ 2018.The ECRI warned that inĀ some countries, there was “a trend toĀ depict multiculturalism asĀ a dangerous notion and toĀ pursue a pattern that seems toĀ negate and deny the value ofĀ human rights and their universality,” cited byĀ Ynet.
According toĀ the ECRI, the trend could hinder social cohesion and incite acts ofĀ hostility, discrimination, hate speech or even violence.
