Crime statistics acquired by the French media have revealed that within the Paris metropolitan area nearly half of all suspects involved in criminal activity are born abroad. Ā
According to the statistics, the number of foreign-born criminals in the Paris metropolitan amounts to double the 20 percent figure seen in the rest of the country. In certain areas of the French capital, the number of foreign-born criminals reaches as high 47.6 percent, Le FigaroĀ reports.
Crimes carried out by unaccompanied youths in the city are also a growing problem. The proximity security department of the Paris agglomeration (DSPAP) ā an organization that conducts its operations throughout Paris and in the surrounding areas outside of the city ā reported that crimes carried out by unaccompanied youth increased by 22.7 percent.
Cases of pickpocketing offenses among younger migrants have also increased considerably since 2016, from 15.8 percent up to 31.7 percent.
While foreign youths were accused of carrying out 2.1 percent of burglaries in the city in 2016, that figure jumped to 13.1 percent in 2019. Foreign youth involvement in violent robberies also jumped from 4.8 percent in 2016 to 16.6 percent in 3019.
Last week,Ā Voice of EuropeĀ reported on the explosion of crime that was seen in France in the very first month of 2020. In January, the number of homicides, homicide attempts, and other kinds of score-settling climbed to 380, marking an 18.7 percent from the previous January.
