‘Poisoned’: School convinces 6-year-old she’s not a girl

‘Girls are not real and boys are not real’

Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. It’s a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world. In 1970, the British rock band The Kinks made those lyrics famous in their smash song “Lola.” Now, nearly half a century later, the words could not ring more true as one family is taking legal action after their 6-year-old daughter was convinced by her schoolteacher that she, in fact, was not actually female.

It’s a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world.

In 1970, the British rock band The Kinks made those lyrics famous in their smash song “Lola.”

Now, nearly half a century later, the words could not ring more true as one family is taking legal action after their 6-year-old daughter was convinced by her schoolteacher that she, in fact, was not actually female.

The case is breaking ground in Ontario, Canada, where a Grade One teacher in the Devonshire Community Public School, part of Ottawa-Carleton District School Board network, was teaching elementary kids about gender fluidity.

The family has taken its complaint to the provincial Human Rights Tribunal for creating a “poisoned environment.”

According to the Post Millennial, the teacher, identified only by the initials “JB,” “initiated the lessons to accommodate a child in the class who had expressed interest in self-expression as the opposite sex.”

The teacher showed videos in class from the YouTube channel Queer Kid Stuff as visual aides.

The Post Millennial noted:

The video contained statements such as, “some people aren’t boys or girls,” and that there are people who do not “feel like a ‘she’ or a ‘he,’” and therefore might not have a gender. … According to [the girl’s] feedback to her mother, [the teacher] told the children that “there is no such thing as girls and boys,” and “girls are not real and boys are not real.”

After two months of being indoctrinated, the young girl, identified only as “N,” “spontaneously and repeatedly asking [her parents] why her identity as a girl was ‘not real,’” the report said.

“She asked if she could ‘go to a doctor’ about the fact that she was a girl.”

The girl’s parents removed her from the school and placed her in class where she’s no longer questioning her gender. The Post Millennial says that last October, N reportedly told her mother, “This table is real, and this fan is real, and even if the fan was made out of cardboard, it’s still real.”

The family is seeking $5,000 in general damages and a judgment that requires the school board to “not devalue, deny, or undermine in any way the female gender identity.”

In addition, the Buffones seek mandatory notice from teacher regarding any gender-identity lessons in the east or future, “including the teaching objectives and the materials that will be or have been used for such lessons.”

The girl’s mother, Pamela Buffone, said: “We’re going to provide evidence that the manner in which [JB] was teaching the concept of gender identity resulted in a poisoned environment. The principal further exacerbated the situation in that the only option provided to us was to remove our daughter from the classroom for these lessons, which is exclusionary treatment. …

Our government seems to have given teachers carte blanche in terms of how they teach this concept [of gender identity]. … Teachers are providing a public service and have a duty of care to all of their students, just as the HRTO has a responsibility to all of Ontarians. I think this case is a good example of why we need to set ideology aside when dealing with human rights.
