Fact-checking project PolitiFact has released the results on a poll they ran where people voted for what they believe was the biggest lie of 2014. The winner? “Climate change is a hoax”, a video released this summer by failed congressional candidate Lenar Whitney.
Earlier this year, readers of the Tampa Bay Timesā fact-checking project PolitiFact were asked to vote on what they believe was the yearās biggest lie. And as of Wednesday, theĀ results are in: āClimate change is a hoaxā was the overwhelming choice.
In addition, there is an overwhelming consensus among actively publishing climate scientists that human-made carbon emissions are causing most of the global warming we see in the atmosphere and oceans.
Though Whitneyās claims were some of the most brazen in nature this year, she was far from the only political figure to claim climate change is a hoax. In fact, the incoming chairman of the Senateās Environment and Public Works Committee, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), is one of Congressā most outspokenĀ climate deniers, sometimes refuting climate change science by citing the bible.
In the outgoing Congress, 17 out of 22 Republican members of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee ā or 77 percent ā deny that climate change is occurring or that humans are the cause. HaTTiP
