“WASHINGTON ā President Trump spoke by phone for an hour Friday with Mexican counterpart Enrique PeƱa Nieto, a day after a dispute over Trump’s proposed border wall caused a rift between their two nations and cancellation of a scheduled meeting between the two leaders.
A Trump administration official confirmed the call took place at 9:30 a.m., speaking on condition of anonymity because a formal readout is scheduled to take place later in the day.”
“The two spoke for about an hour, and both presidents made an effort to say that the call had been productive, suggesting that tensions had cooled, at least publicly.
But they stood their ground on their positions, with no suggestion that the call had resolved their disagreement over fundamental issues.
āWith respect to the payment for the border wall, both presidents recognized their clear and very public difference between their stances on this very sensitive issue. The presidents also agreed for now to not speak publicly about this controversial issue,ā the Mexican presidentās office said in a statement.”
