U.S. woman claims she was body-shamed after video of her rescue goes viral

“People have no idea that I used to be 400 pounds and now I am the way I am,” Miller explained.

A Detroit woman says she was body-shamed after a video was released by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office that showed officers rescue her from a freezing lake she had fallen into, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Korisa Miller said she was out fishing with a friend at Beacon Cove Marina on Lake St. Clair when she lost her footing, falling onto the ice below. It took seconds for the ice to crack and Miller quickly plunged into the frigid 36C water. Her friend screamed for help and two nearby fishermen were able to lend a hand.

In the video released by police, officers are seen struggling to pull Miller from the water.

“Come on girlfriend, come on!,” the officer is heard saying as he tries to pull Miller from the water.

Miller is oddly seen wearing a tank top and tights, not exactly clothes you would expect for a mid-January fishing trip.

Miller explained that her jacket and sweater were pulled off as rescuers tried to lift her from the lake.

“Every time they pulled up, I was getting choked on top of already hyperventilating and freaking out,” Miller said.

“The spot where I fell in the water was 12 feet deep,” Miller said. “It only took a matter of seconds for me to be completely submerged.”

People weren’t kind to Miller, who claims she was body-shamed in the comments section of the Facebook post where the video was shared.

“After going through such a traumatic experience and I almost died, this is what people have to say,” Miller said. “I just think these people have no conscience anymore.”

“People have no idea that I used to be 400 pounds and now I am the way I am,” Miller explained.

The situation was no laughing matter, either, as it only took minutes before Miller’s legs went numb.

“It only took about two minutes for me to no longer feel my legs … they kept hitting the dock,” Miller said.

The video was released to remind people of how dangerous ice fishing can be, providing a list of tips to help keep you safe. HaTTiP
