Construction workers found the remains of over a dozen people beneath Washington Square Park. These 19th-century skeletonsĀ were a very unexpected surprise.Ā
On Tuesday, the bodies were foundĀ in a vault while the men wereĀ upgrading the water mainsĀ that run beneath the park.
The 8-foot-deep, 15-foot-wide and 20-foot-long vaultĀ holds human remains that are overĀ one hundred yearsĀ old.
The Landmarks CommissionĀ will soonĀ team up with archeologists and anthropologists to investigate this find even further.
For now,Ā the area isĀ blocked off from cars and pedestrians.
