Vladimir Putin Envious Of NYPD’s Power To Oppress Citizens.
MOSCOW-In an interview with Andrei Bandenko of TASS, Vladimir Putin stated that he was ‘impressed’ by the power of the NYPD saying that the department’s ability to oppress portions of the city’s population was ‘unparalleled’. Putin made the comments when asked about recent events in New York City where a Staten Island grand jury declined to indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner. Garner, a black man, died after being placed in a choke hold by the officer during an arrest for the crime of selling loose cigarettes.
Putin was clearly envious of the might that the NYPD possesses, saying during the interview that the police department was better armed than the militaries of many countries around the world.
Putin was also surprised at the ease with which the police officer, Daniel Pantaleo, avoided prosecution, noting, “The NYPD was able to protect the officer even when there was overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing”. Among the evidence presented to the grand jury was a video in which Garner is seen pleading for officers not to touch him, to leave him alone and finally — to give him air to breathe.
Putin went on to point out that even in Russia it would be unlikely that a Militsiya officer could avoid prosecution for such a brazen crime caught on film. “We will need to further study the methods and tactics that the NYPD is using to oppress the minority communities in New York,” he added. “If I had such a force as the NYPD at my disposal I would have little difficulty in silencing my opposition and becoming president for life.”
